Olive oil

January 22, 2018

Whether applied to your face or body, olive oil will penetrate deep into the skin and provide a long-lasting shield of moisture to keep skin smooth and supple. Used either as a night cream or daily moisturizer, it is best applied to damp skin, when water can help reduce any feeling of greasiness. Recommended for normal/combination skin, dry/damaged skin and mature/aging skin.

Olive oil has been said to be good for:

  • keeping the skin moist and wrinkle free
  • prevent skin disorders such as acne and eczema
  • It reduces skin inflammation and helps in curing several skin disorders such psoriasis.
  • Makeup Remover: Just a drop or two of extra virgin olive oil on a cotton pad is all it takes to gently and effectively remove eye makeup without irritating the delicate skin around the eye area. The biggest added advantage is that when used consistently, olive oil can soften the skin around the eyes and smooth out wrinkles.

  4. It is not very greasy so you can use it while styling your hair to make it more manageable.

Mango Butter Benefits for the Skin

  1. Mango butter has rich moisturizing properties that have the potential to end all your dry skin woes. If you suffer from dry and flaky skin, simply rub some mango butter between your fingers and smooth it on your skin. This will instantly hydrate your skin.
  2. Mango butter, when used over time on your knees and elbows helps you get rid of the coarseness of the skin.
  3. Mango butter can protect your skin from UV rays, eczema, rashes, insect bites and poison ivy.

Remember this is a eyeballing kind of recipe which just means you'll add as much or as little as you like.

  • Cashews
  • Almonds
  • Golden raisins
  • Dried Cranberries ( Original and juice infused: Pomegrante, Cherries, Blueberries)
  • Chocolate chips

Enjoy and don't eat it all at once!

Banana Bread

December 10, 2016

Kids not eating those bananas fast enough or maybe like me you bought a bunch thinking you'd make 2 banana puddings for Thanksgiving and was too tired to make it to the second one, lol. Well it gave me the opportunity to make this recipe that I've wanted to try my hand at for years. I doubled the original recipe and ended up with a loaf, a pan of mini loaves, a pan of muffins (1-12ct & 1-6ct). So if you want to make as much as I did you'll need to double this one as well

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup pureed bananas
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 3/4 cups plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 10 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 cup toasted chopped walnuts (optional)

So as you see I made putting the nuts in optional and left it out of the description because I personally hate nuts in my food and my daughter doesn't like nuts of any kind in or out of food. Don't worry whatever you decide as the receipe will be a hit either way.

Directions: Depending on the kitchen gadgets you will be using this will determine your process. Your bananas need to be pureed to start. If you're using a mixer you'll still need to puree the bananas in a blender or food processor.

  1. Mix bananas and sour cream in bowl
  2. Add eggs, beating in one at a time
  3. Add vanilla and set aside In a separate bowl
  4. Mix together salt, flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda
  5. Melt butter and add to dry mix blending well with mixer
  6. Add wet mix in 3 batches scraping sides of bowl and mix in between each addition
  7. Fold in walnuts and bake until light brown and bounces back to touch
This recipe is found on a flour sack dish towel and to my surprise turned out to work perfectly. You can find it and more @ aloveofdishtowels.com

Why is it So Important to Hydrate?

December 05, 2016

Are you getting enough water?

Are 8 glasses of water really necessary?

Don't really care to drink a flavorless beverage?

Are you getting headaches, catching craps or maybe your urine doesn't smell or look so good?

If you have asked yourself or someone you know any of these questions this article is for you or maybe you'd just like to know some great ways to increase your health and wellness and I'm here to help get your healthy on. Our bodies depend on water for survival as the organs, cells and tissues need it to operate. Your water intake affects your bodies temperature and the lubricating of your joints. It is important to drink water because your body is mostly made up of it or should I say it is most of your body weight.

On a daily basis you lose water through such things as going to the bathroom and sweating. If you are concerned that you are not drinking enough water then try observing your urine; if it is consistently colorless or light yellow, you are most likely staying well hydrated. Dark yellow or an amber-colored urine could be a sign of dehydration. A good rule of thumb for getting enough water is to take your body weight and divide it by 1/2 (Ex. you weigh 180 lbs. divided by 2 = 90 ounces of water daily)

Reasons to Increase Water Intake

  • Medical conditions such as kidney stones or bladder infections
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Planning to be outside during hot weather
  • Exercising
  • Fever
  • Vomiting or have diarrhea
  • Trying to lose weight
  • Dehydration
Symptoms of Dehydration
  • Little to no urine or urine that is darker than usual
  • Dry mouth
  • Sleepiness or fatigue
  • Extreme thirst
  • Headache
  • Confusion
  • Dizziness or lightheaded feeling
  • No tears when crying
When are Good Times to Drink Water
  • When you wake up, at breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Before, during and after working out
Benefits of Drinking Water
  • Contributes to a healthy weight-loss plan
  • Helps to feel fuller
  • Keeps you hydrated
  • Helps with digestion (warm or hot water after eating)
  • Contributes to a flat belly ( warm or hot water upon waking up before a meal, add lemon)
Recipes with Benefits
  • (Fat-burning, digestion & headaches) green tea + mint + lime
  • (Blood sugar support & digestion) cucumber + strawberry +kiwi
  • (Hydration, digestion & appetite control) cucumber + lemon + lime
  • (Immune defense, digestion & heartburn) lime + orange + lemon

*For best results combine with 12-16 ounces of water

How to get Sexy Smooth Legs

December 02, 2016

Every woman wants sexy smooth legs and here is how you can get that beautiful look. Coconut oil has so many benefits and for those who know me personally; I'm known as the "Coconut Nut" as I'm nuts about it. My children hear me talking to someone and they say shaking their heads "she thinks coconut oil is good for everything". Well what isn't it good for? Just for today we're just gonna talk about those gorgeous legs we want to enhance.

Coconut oil is a natural way to moisturize your skin and can also be used to shave your legs. Yes I have tried this personally and it is how I shave my legs. Some benefits of using this method; helps to prevent ingrown hairs and razor burn. I've added a recipe found on Midget Momma. All you need is 2 ingredients to give you a little aroma therapy; note you do not have to make up the cream you can simply rub the coconut oil on your legs. The cream gives a thicker application which will cut down on you nicking yourself with your razor. However I know sometimes we need to cut a few steps for time value. You will rub the cream on your skin, shave and pat dry.

Vanilla Coconut Shaving Cream

  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Using a mixer whip coconut oil on high for 5 minutes.
  2. Add vanilla and whip until well blended.
  3. Place mixture into an airtight container.
  4. Apply cream at the end of shower or bath to shave areas as you normally would.
  5. You can wipe razor on a damp cloth or rinse in a small cup or bowl of hot water with a teaspoon of dish soap in it.
